Name of the Department:-COMMERCE

Introduction of the department:

The Department of Commerce is successfully run since the foundation of the college. The courses offered are B. Com. Part I Part II and Part III and earlier had only single Marathi medium divisions with 135 students. There were only three full time teachers and four optional subjects that is Advanced Accountancy, Advanced Cost Accounting, Advanced Banking and Industrial Management in which students can obtain degree.
At present the department is providing education in both Marathi and English medium. All three classes have two divisions each as well as one English medium division.
From 2015 the department has started M.Com. Part 1 and 2 courses in Advanced Accountancy on non-grant basis. These both courses have two divisions each. Now the department handles 9 UG classes and 4 PG classes with 772 numbers of students. This number of students is 32.16 % of the total number of students of the college. Three full time faculties are working in grantable wing and two full times and four part time faculty are there for non grantable wing. The department is bound to impart professional education with Income Tax, Accounting Tally with GST, Audit Ascertainment of Cost and Cost Management. The department conducts 3 COC courses in Tax Consultancy, Accounting Tally with GST and Analysis of Financial Statements. Along with regular courses students are made to involve in different study tours, OJTs and internships.

• . To inculcate research qualities in students
• To learn various programming languages and custom software.

• To encourage students for government, semi- Government and private sector job opportunities

Department Achievements: (Max 5 Bullets):

1. Department of Commerce of Dr. Ghali College Gadhinglaj has secured four times First Rank under Semi-Urban category in Shivaji University merit scholarship in the years 2016-17 2017-18 2022-23 and 2023-24.

2. Four students have been top rankers in various subjects in M.Com. Examination and many students got top ranks in various subjects of B.Com. Examination conducted by Shivaji University Kolhapur in last 5 years and received highest scholarships from Central Government, State Government, Shivaji University, other Financial Institutions and NGOs

3. Eight students of the department cleared CA/CS/ICWA examinations. Every year more than Ten students clear CA /CS foundation and intermediate examinations

4. Four students cleared NET and SET examination and doing job as lecturer. Many students have passed Clerk Examinations conducted by the Government Department, Banks and other Financial Institutions. Some students are working in Indian Army and Police Department.

5. Ten girl’s students of department selected in university women's hockey team and one student received ‘Major DhyanChand Award’ in 2018 for recording National and International Skating Competition

Other Information:

1. Our former Student Miss Suvarna Madalagi qualified CA with bachelor’s degreein Accounting (Ranked as Top affiliate in March 2018 in Singapore) and also qualified ACCA & ISCA. Now she is working as an Accountant, Auditor, Financial Analysts and Business Advisor in Singapore and in other countries.

2. Mrs. Vaishnavi Vinayak Sutar received honor at the hands of then Honorable President of India Ramnath Kovind for receiving National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) 2020.

3. Dr. M. D. Pujari Head of the Department of Commerce is working as a member of Board of PG Education at college level of Shivaji University Kolhapur. He is also working as a member of subcommittee of the BOS in Accountancy and Cost Accounting of Shivaji University Kolhapur.

4. Prof.S.N.Janvekar working as a member of subcommittee of the BOS in Accountancy and Cost Accounting of Shivaji University Kolhapur.
